Overview

This one-day Beaune tour takes you down the « Champs Elysées » of the Burgundy vineyards and is the perfect introduction to the region and its wines. This wine tour is centred around Beaune, the region’s wine capital and we'll take you to both the Côte de Nuits, world-famous for its exquisite reds made from the notoriously fickle pinot noir grape variety and to the vineyards just south of Beaune, known as the Côte de Beaune, where, with the exception of a few villages such as Pommard and Volnay, the Chardonnay dominates. In fact, the scenic road you will be travelling along is known as the “road of the Grand Crus” and it is a who’s who of some of the most famous wine-producing villages in the world. We will also take you off the beaten-track to vineyards that lie just beyond the great Grand Cru vineyards and where Burgundy wine lovers may still find superb wines at really affordable prices!

Lunch is a typically Burgundian affair in a local bistro or inn where you will be able to indulge in some of the culinary specialities that lend the region its gastronomic renown. Why not try Burgundian snails, a beef bourguignon or even an “oeufs en meurette” which is an egg poached in a red wine sauce and served with diced bacon.  And for cheese lovers there’s some local gems such as the delicious cows’ milk Epoisses or Citeaux. And of course, all of these delicious local specialities can be washed down with a glass or two of the region’s beautiful wines.

During your day with us you will also learn about the history of the region, from the essential role played by the medieval religious orders to the Great Dukes of Burgundy whose power and influence contributed to making Burgundy a household name for both its great red and white wines. Very important here is the notion of « terroir » which lies at the root of the system of classifying the different wines. Through the different tastings and meeting the wine-growers themselves, you will also discover the knowledge, dedication, and passion that is required to produce world-class wines here in Burgundy. Furthermore, you will be introduced to the fascinating (and often confusing!) subject of organic and biodynamic wine making so that you will better understand the philosophy, viticultural techniques and the different terminology surrounding these environmentally-friendly wines.

And of course, we will assist in organising the shipping of your favourite wines from the vineyard to your doorstep.

A must do when it comes to French wine tours!

About Nick

My professional experience in wine and tourism has been long and varied and has included, amongst others, working as a wine buyer and sommelier for boutique hotels, putting together wine lists for restaurants, a specialised wine tour guide for luxury hotel barges, a « wine hunter » for Scandinavian importers as well as organising and conducting wine-tastings to Wine Societies in the UK, Germany and Holland. I have also completed my WSET Level 3 and and obtained a certificate in Advanced Tasting Techniques from the Wine University in Suze-la-Rousse". I love sharing my knowledge of wine and spirits with people interested in the topics. I have a passion for how wine is made, from the methods used to the history of the grapes. If you would like to learn more about wine, join me in my Facebook group by signing up below to using the form. I talk about wines, answer all the questions you may have about it growing techniques, history, and even organise webinars for the group members where I talk about wine in a bit more detail. Hope to welcome you there soon!
